When it comes to describing New Jersey’s Man On Fire, a few words spring to mind: Brutal. Unflinching. Uncompromising. The band’s tenure was brief to say the very least, but left quite an impact on the local scene with their brand of intense experimental punk/melodic hardcore.
As often happens, you don’t begin to appreciate certain things until they aren’t around anymore. Just as I was discovering the band and quickly becoming a fan after catching a performance at Clash Bar, Man On Fire packed it up in December of 2012, headlining a farewell show at the Court Tavern in New Brunswick. Since then, frontman Brian Goglia resurfaced in the band NGHTCRWLRS with Eric Goldberg (All Sensory Void) and Frank DeFranco (Holy City Zoo).
Details are scarce at the moment, but there’s hope on the horizon for fellow fans. In true Man On Fire fashion, the band posted a cryptic photo on their Facebook page with the caption, “man on fire show happening soon???” I wish I had more to elaborate on, but that will have to suffice until they see fit to hit us with more information. In the meantime, do yourselves a favor: check out their blistering EP, Strange Days Have Found Us. If that album doesn’t light a fire under your feet and kick you straight in the ass then I don’t know what will.
